Hidradentis suppurativa bevindt zich meestal tussen huidplooien of op plekken waar de huid tegen elkaar aan schuurt.1 HS is een chronische, progressieve, systemische ontstekingsaandoening die kan leiden tot invaliderende pijn, schaamte, beperking en een verminderde levenskwaliteit.1,2 De huidziekte HS treft circa 1 op de 100 personen.3,4 HS verbergt zich uit het zicht van zorgprofessionals die geen dermatoloog zijn, en de ziekte voor een andere huidaandoening kunnen aanzien.2 Door een gebrek aan herkenning, verkeerde diagnoses en ineffectieve behandeling blijft HS toenemen, waardoor de gezondheid van patiënten verslechtert en het leven moeilijker maakt.2,5,6

Zeven tot tien jaar.1-3 Zo lang duurt het gemiddeld voordat iemand de diagnose hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) krijgt.4-6 Al die tijd kampen mensen (ongeveer 1 op de 100) 7-15 met klachten, zoals terugkerende ontstekingen en bulten. Er kunnen ook dieper gelegen pijnlijke verdikkingen, tunnels en abcessen ontstaan. De klachten hebben grote impact: pijn, ongemak, schaamte en beperkingen in het dagelijkse leven. Hidradenitis suppurativa is moeilijk te behandelen. Maar er is wel iets aan te doen. En dat begint met een tijdige diagnose.
